The Alaska Nanooks volunteered at last weekend's Mush For Kids event at Pioneer Park, marking more than a decade of volunteering at the annual ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø community event.

Student-athletes from men's hockey, rifle, men's and women's skiing, women's swimming, women's basketball and women's volleyball took turns helping children into and out of sleds as they got to experience a short dog sled ride around the Pioneer Park grounds.

Mush For Kids organizer Susan Kraemer reported that just under 2,800 ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍøans participated in this year's event and of that number, 332 kids took advantage of the free sled dog rides.

"The student-athletes are a big part of this event and we are grateful for their help again this year," she said.

The Nanooks also signed and gave out an athletics all-sport poster that featured a picture of all the student-athletes as well as the cheer team for the 2012-13 season.

Alaska's Human Resources Technician Brittany Baum worked with the head coaches from each team to have groups of student-athletes sign up for shifts and rotate at the two stations throughout the duration of the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

"I'm so glad we have the opportunity to help out with such a great event," Baum said. "We always have fun!"
